Family and Employment

Recently parliamentarians have been embroiled in controversy because Tory MP Derek Conway has been suspended from Parliament for claiming monies for at least one of his sons, saying he was employed by him when this was not the case.  

I personally believe this behaviour fell well short of what should be  expected of a Member of Parliament and is inexcusable.

Many constituents will also be aware I employ a family member in my office in the form of my husband, Steven Wilson. He fulfils the role of  parliamentary researcher, press and communication officer.

I would like to put on record the work Steve carries out in supporting me in my role. Without his support I do not believe I could be as  effective as I am in my role as your representative.

He works long hours, giving a level of commitment most employers would be proud of. As a former Sheffield City Councillor he also brings expertise and an insight which helps me in my role as your Member of Parliament. He is also an Economics and Politics graduate, making him well qualified for the position he holds in my office.

I am proud of the work he and the other members of my staff carry out on your behalf and believe they all offer excellent value for money to the people of Sheffield Hillsborough.
