Angela's fury at bus cuts

Angela Smith has reacted with anger at the latest round of bus cuts in north Sheffield. Many services have seen the removal of buses from next month, with Stocksbridge, High Green and Crookes seeing the removal of 1 bus per hour.

This is even more disappointing when it is considered that recently, for the time in many years, bus patronage actually increased in south Yorkshire.

Commenting on the changes announced by First Buses, Angela said,
“I am extremely disappointed that once again the bus operators are announcing bus cuts. At a time when we should be encouraging more people to catch buses, these companies seem intent on reducing capacity.

“I have written to First Buses to express my dissatisfaction with the situation, asking for a re-think.

“I have also written to the PTE, asking that plans be brought forward to re-regulate bus services in Sheffield as soon as possible. It is now clear that the only way we are going to stop these sorts of unilateral cuts in services is if local authorities take much more control over services.

“Now we have the necessary legislation in place it is incumbent on local authorities to do just this, and to do it quickly.”
